Purpose

Daydream Misfit website and blog publishes surreal short stories, dark visual imagery, offbeat experimental writing and design, and cultural satire. I'd love to connect with weird-fiction, alt-reality and indie-zine readers.

Over the years, I've written dozens of stories and created hundreds of handmade drawings and paintings. Now I'm exploring AI (typically Ideogram, heavily edited in Gimp) as a new tool, wrestling with the implications and leaning into the weirdness.

I'm spectrumy. I'm restless creatively and all over the place. Algorithms don't like that I'm eclectic. But I'm not a brand. I'm not a niche. And that's not going to change.

The Daydream Misfit project is my way -- along with my wife, Katty Pulsar and our girlfriend, Raven Storm -- to engage in digital design series that explore surreal, emotionally ambiguous visual storytelling that blends dream logic, symbolic figures, and psychological tension.

I embrace colorful, trippy, absurd, raw, and authentic expression. Welcome to my sketchbook, diary, confessional booth, and curiosity shop. Expect fragmented dream-world narratives and tangents. I'm glad you could make it, and I hope you'll subscribe.

Weirdcore vs. Dreamcore: What’s the difference? Weirdcore uses unsettling, distorted, or uncanny imagery to evoke discomfort, confusion, and internet-era nostalgia. Dreamcore draws on dreamlike spaces, surreal landscapes, soft colors, and familiar but strange environments to recreate the atmosphere of dreams and half-remembered places. Their faces were twisted up. I shook when they barked. Then, left to sit in that vibration.

This morning, I'm thinking of memories of seeing people getting angry with my dad as a child. Things I didn’t understand until I was older.

I remember once, maybe I was seven, my dad drove us to some huge brown house on a beach. We lived in the center of the state, so this would have been a two-or-three-hour trip in a grumbling 1970s car with an 8-track player and windows down for lack of working a/c.

The house had a long staircase of dark wood planks dusty with white sand. I remember the inside being clean and modern white and orderly, in contrast to the crumbling and unkempt old house my family lived in, a 1930s build dad had inherited but didn’t maintain. But I was young and the status of it meant nothing at the time. I just knew I was in strange waters.

The owners of the house were absolutely incensed. I think it was a man and a woman. In my memory they're a shadow. The strangers went off on my dad right in front of me, and they all argued for a while. I was a fragile little thing, anxious all the time, like a guitar string agitated by the slightest movement. I was terrified.

Someone handed me a magazine and sat me on a plush white couch. My dad and his friends disappeared into another room. For most an hour, I sat there alone. I don’t think I looked at the magazine much. There was an enormous storm window looking out onto the beach, and that’s what captivated me. It was the biggest TV I’d ever seen, and a nature show on. I sat mesmerized.

When dad reappeared, everyone was happy. He was sniffling. The shadow murmured kindly noises at my back as we walked back down the sandy staircase.

Maryland Heights, Missouri – A large crater appeared overnight in Maryland Heights, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. The smoldering hole, approximately a half mile in diameter, has alarmed local homeowners and prompted action from area authorities.

Nearby residents report hearing a loud explosion as well as seeing unusual lights around the time the crater is believed to have formed, about 1:00 A.M. on September 20th. One eyewitness reported “lightning in reverse, from the ground to the sky, and a boom like you’ve never heard in your life.”
